Comcast Presents Trophies and Plaque to Northampton GOP Bocce Champs

At the October 28, 2002 Northampton GOP committee meeting, Joe Czjakowski, Dir. Community and Government Relations for Comcast presented the championship bocce trophies and plaque to Chairman Gretel Bleich and the championship team members.   Click on each thumbnail below for the larger version.

Northampton GOP Wins 2002 Bucks County Bocce Championship

NHGOP Champs.jpg (74523 bytes)Congratulations to the Northampton GOP Bocci team with Tony Albano, Bob Borkowski, Joe Cotignola and Ted Hauptman who subbed for Jim Donahue. They won the Bucks County Championship Sunday at the Grange Fairgrounds advancing all the way to the final round where they knocked off Bensalem Township in the Championship game. They were the only undefeated team in the tournament. To get to the final game NH_Bensalem_Commissioners.jpg (137604 bytes)NH&USouth Supervisors.jpg (96564 bytes)they beat the Northampton Planning Commission 11-9, Lower Makefield Sr. Citizens Team#2 11-2, the Bucks County Commissioners 11-6 and Bensalem 11-7.

The event was held as part of the 2002 International Day of Bucks County Celebration and was coordinated by Northampton Supervisor Pete Palestina. Eleven teams were entered into the tournament:

  1. Northampton Township: Pete Palestina, John Long, Jim Kinney, George Komelasky.
  2. Upper Southampton Township: Keith Froggatt, Walt Stevens , Steve Ulrich, Joe Golden.
  3. Bensalem Township: Joe DiGirolamo, Bill Maddocks, Joe Szafran, John DiEgidio, Ed Kisselback,Fire Co_Srs_Toll_Usouth.jpg (133784 bytes) Joe Pileri.
  4. Northampton GOP: Tony Albano, Bob Borkowski, Joe Cotignola and Ted Hauptman.

Advancing to the semi-finals were: Northampton Township, Bensalem Township, Northampton GOP.

After Bensalem Township knocked off Northampton Township 11-9 and Championship Finals.jpg (104904 bytes)the Northampton GOP knocked off the County Commissioners 11-6, the final championship match was played and Northampton GOP defeated Bensalem 11-7.Tommy Chats.jpg (114303 bytes)

Coordinator Pete Palestina was quoted as saying "It was great to see the Northampton GOP win the championship as all but one person ever played bocce before today. They beat a tough and experienced Bensalem team and it just goes to show that anyone can play this game and have fun".

 

BOCCE INTRODUCED BY NORTHAMPTON GOP AND SUPERVISORS AT THE SEPTEMBER 30th CHILDREN'S INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL DAY CELEBRATION

The Northampton Supervisors Bocce Team and the GOP held a bocce demonstration during the September 30, 2001 Children's International Cultural Day Celebration.  Taking on all comers, the Supervisors lead by Pete Palestina, Jim Kinney and Art Friedman went undefeated for the day.  Participating for the Northampton GOP lead by team captain Gretel Bleich were: Vince Deon, Tony Albano, Scott King, Bob Borkowski and Larry Weinstein.
