Mike Fisher Loses Governor’s Race, But Did We Do Great Otherwise? You Bet

Unfortunately, Mike Fisher could not overcome the tremendous support received by Ed Rendell in southeast Pennsylvania. But the GOP did much better than expected in the November 5, 2002 elections by retaining virtually every seat and picking up some new ones. The GOP now controls the U.S. House and Senate as well as the Pennsylvania House and Senate. Stunning the pollsters completely, not to mention the democrats, the GOP also won many of the gubernatorial races as well. Some in shocking style. Our President George W. Bush rallied out the troops by a vigorous campaign schedule during the two weeks prior to the election and can now reap the benefits of more support for the republican agenda without the usual interference form the democrats.

Although the Governor’s seat will be controlled by the democrats via Ed Rendell, the GOP will have full control of the legislature and will be able to force the Governor and the democrat minority leadership to listen to what we have to say.

Here in Northampton, we are proud to say that we will enjoy the continued leadership of Jim Greenwood as our congressman, Tommy Tomlinson in the state senate and newcomer Scott Petri replacing Roy Reinard in the 178th. We are proud to say that once again, substance, knowledge and leadership won over those who would promise anything to anyone without telling you how they are going to do it, just to get elected.

On behalf of the Northampton Republican Committee and all of our successful candidates, we would like to thank you, our faithful voters for your support and help in making all of this possible.

Wasn’t this a great election for Bucks County, the 178th and Northampton Township? You bet it was.

300 supporters attend Petri Fundraiser on July 25th - Courier Times had positive comments to make

July25_02a.jpg (17234 bytes)More than 300 supporters attended a $50-a-plate political fund-raiser at the Spring Mill Country Club for Scott Petri Thursday evening July 25th.  The news media had nice things to report on the event.  The Courier Times had the following to say.  "As for Petri, he said he wants to continue to promote better land use practices - including open space preservation, better storm water management and improved water quality - "at the next level," the state House.  He helped campaign successfully in 2000 for a $10 million open space bond issue in Upper Makefield.

"Communities should have more say in how they develop," Petri said. "New development isn't paying for the cost of infrastructure, so developers must bear a larger portion of these costs."  He said he also would work to change the state municipalities planning code to give local governments more power.

More than one supporter noted that Petri comes across as a straight shooter.   Jason Richards, 21, said he offered to work in Petri's campaign after meeting the candidate early this year. The offer was accepted.  "He's a genuine guy," said Richards, who is entering his senior year at Colgate University in New York. "He tells you exactly what he wants to do."

Former Upper Southampton Supervisor John Held described Petri as "a breath of fresh air. He has dynamic energy and there is nothing artificial about him. I think he is in tune with his constituents."

Northampton GOP leader Gretel Bleich said Petri "does not come across as a career politician."  "One of my goals is to bring young blood into the party and, in Petri, thank God, we have this," Bleich said.

A message from our Attorney General and GOP candidate for Governor Mike Fisher

Dear Fellow Pennsylvanian:
This year brings many challenges and opportunities to our state, as we will elect a new Governor on November 5th. I look forward to sharing with the citizens of this state my vision to continue to protect Pennsylvania families.

As Governor, I will have no higher priority than protecting our families from crime and drugs. But, in the midst of these tough economic times, our next Governor needs to be equally committed to protecting our jobs and improving our economy. Our next Governor also needs to be committed to improving our public education system and fixing our school funding crisis by providing real property tax relief.

These problems are not Republican or Democrat issues, they are Pennsylvania challenges. Over the coming months, I will be traveling our state and discussing my agenda to protect our communities, improve our economy and provide every child with the opportunity to succeed.

I hope you will take some time to look around this website and check back often for updates on how together we can continue to improve our state.

Sincerely,

Mike Fisher

If Ed Rendell has his way...

Council Rock can count on a property tax INCREASE!

BS00508_.WMF (20732 bytes)Ed Rendell's plan for property taxes calls for funding each individual school district at 50%.  The problem?  Ed Rendell doesn't put any spending controls into place and does nothing to protect taxpayers from future property tax increases.  As spending increases, Ed Rendell forces local school districts to pick up the tab.  In Council Rock alone, Ed Rendell's education plan will result in over $16.4 million of property tax increases, more than a 17% increase.

So That's Ed Rendell's Plan For Council Rock's Property Tax Crises?  A $16.4 million increase in Property Taxes and no taxpayer protection from future increases or controls on out of control spending?

There is a better plan...

The Fisher Plan for Lowering Property Taxes lowers property taxes across the board and does it immediately.  It also includes provisions that control spending and protects taxpayers from future property tax increases.  The Fisher Plan...A real property tax cut for Council Rock.

FOR RE-ELECTION TO THE 6TH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Due to redistricting, Northampton has now been placed as part of the 6th Senatorial District.  Northampton had previously been in the 10th Senatorial Distict led by Joe Conti who was also endorsed for re-election.  Senator Tomlinson is serving his second term representing residents of the 6th District.  Tommy also served in the PA House of Representatives representing the 18th District from 1991 through 1994.  He is also a tommy2.jpg (52679 bytes)funeral director and owns and operates Tomlinson Funeral Home in Bensalem, a family business established in 1945.  The Senator serves as Chairman of the Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee and is Vice Chairman of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee which shapes the state's multi-billion-dollar budget.  In addition, Tommy was a member of the Bensalem Township School Board for 12 years prior to his entry into the state legislature.

Tommy Family.jpg (36181 bytes)Tommy lives in Bensalem with his wife Nancy and daughters K.C. and Maddie.  Both he and Nancy have been involved with many worthwhile charities and organizations throughout Bucks County.  We will miss Joe Conti, but with experience like Tommy's, we will be well represented in addition to gaining an additional friend and supporter along with Joe Conti.

petri1.jpg (30853 bytes)SCOTT PETRI GETS GOP ENDORSEMENT FOR 178TH HOUSE SEAT

The Bucks County GOP has endorsed Scott A. Petri to run for the seat held by 20 year legislator Roy Reinard.  When Reinard announced that he will not be seeking another term, several candidates screened for the right to be the GOP nominee and Scott Petri got the final nod.  Petri is an attorney with the law firm of Liederbach, Hahn, Foy & Petri located in Richboro.  An PetriFamily.jpg (16613 bytes)Upper Makefield resident living with his wife Ellen Marie and son Drew, Scott has served on the Upper Makefield Planning Commission and the Joint Municipal Planning Commission.  As a mentor for youth, Scott has been an active participant/contributor to local charities, hospitals and Universities.

petri2.jpg (53131 bytes)Scott will work for us by: 1. Planning for sustainable, controlled growth to protect our quality of life.  2. Keep our state taxes and local property taxes under control.  3. Search for alternative funding for prescription medication and health insurance for seniors.  4. Building coalitions among the communities encompassing the 178th Legislative District.

Apr02GOPh.jpg (25283 bytes)Says Scott "Whether as a volunteer mentoring young adults, volunteering for my church or helping to protect our environment and creating open space, I have always had a deep commitment to making our community a better place to live and work.  I have seen firsthand the difficulties our communities face in controlling growth and congestion and keeping our taxes down.  I want to make our state government more responsive to our needs.  State government should be a help, not a hindrance, and allow each of our local communities to plan and protect our quality of life".
